Finance Hub & Virtual CFO

External finance team and Virtual CFO services that keep pace with your decisions.

Not outsourced bookkeeping. Structured financial leadership from chartered accountants who understand the commercial context behind the numbers.

As businesses grow, financial needs move beyond completing accounts toward a finance function that supports ongoing decision-making. Our Finance Hub operates as an external finance team supported by Virtual CFO services, bringing day-to-day coordination, executive reporting and strategic oversight into a single, aligned function.

In short

Beyond compliance, toward decision-making.

The gap between what a growing business needs financially and what compliance-focused accounting provides widens with every new revenue stream, entity or stakeholder. The Finance Hub closes that gap, an external finance team handling day-to-day coordination, with Virtual CFO oversight on top providing forecasting, reporting and the financial leadership that growing and multi-entity businesses rely on. Compliance-only accounting gives you a rear-view mirror. This gives you a windscreen.

Why businesses engage one

Most businesses come to us because something has shifted.

Reporting is not giving leadership confidence

You receive statements but they do not tell you what is actually happening. Margins are unclear, profitability by division is unknown, and basic questions about which parts of the business generate returns go unanswered.

Banks or investors are asking harder questions

Lenders, investors or acquirers request information your current reporting cannot produce, or the information you have does not present the business in its best light.

Growth feels less controlled

Revenue is rising but profit is not following. Cash is tighter despite higher sales. New hires, locations or product lines have added complexity without matching financial oversight.

Major decisions are made without financial context

New leases, large hires, capital expenditure and acquisitions are being committed on intuition rather than modelling. The business is succeeding despite its financial management, not because of it.

The business has outgrown its original structure

The accountant and bookkeeper who served you well at $1 million are not equipped for a $10 million multi-entity group. The reporting and level of strategic input no longer match the complexity.

What it is

An in-house finance department, provided externally.

An external finance team

A dedicated financial operations function that integrates with your business as if it were an in-house finance department. Rather than fragmented services from different providers, you get coordinated support across compliance, reporting, cash management and strategic planning.

It works particularly well for businesses that have outgrown their initial accounting arrangements but are not yet at the scale where a full internal finance team, a CFO, controller and management accountant, is commercially justified.

A Virtual CFO

A senior financial professional providing CFO-level services on a part-time or retained basis. Rather than a full-time CFO, which typically costs $250,000 to $400,000 or more in total employment cost, you access strategic financial leadership for a fraction of that.

Here the Virtual CFO is not delivered in isolation. They sit within the Finance Hub, supported by an underlying finance team, so the strategic advice is grounded in real, current data rather than outdated reports.

A Virtual CFO is typically used to interpret performance and margin drivers across business units, strengthen reporting so leadership sees what matters, forecast cash flow and working capital pressure before it becomes a crisis, model expansion, funding or investment scenarios, introduce governance and decision-making rhythm, and prepare the business for scrutiny from banks, investors or acquirers.

What's included

What our external finance team and Virtual CFO service includes.

External finance team support
Day-to-day coordination of financial operations, accounts payable and receivable oversight, bank reconciliation governance, payroll review, BAS preparation and general ledger maintenance, as a reliable base for everything else.
Financial review & performance interpretation
Monthly or quarterly review against budget, prior periods and benchmarks, interpreting the numbers to surface margin shifts, cost movements and revenue patterns that need attention.
Management reporting design & oversight
Custom reporting built around what leadership needs to see, divisional P&L, project-level profitability, entity consolidation, KPI dashboards or board packs, populated with accurate data and presented to drive decisions.
Cash flow & working capital management
Forecasting across 13-week rolling, quarterly and annual horizons, monitoring debtor and creditor cycles, identifying pinch points and modelling the cash impact of upcoming decisions.
Strategic planning & growth support
Financial modelling for business planning, revenue forecasting, scenario analysis, capital allocation and investment appraisal, giving growth and expansion advisory the evidence to move with confidence.
Governance & accountability frameworks
Regular financial review meetings, KPI accountability, budget variance reporting and decision protocols, creating clarity around oversight for multi-director businesses.
Decision modelling & scenario analysis
Detailed modelling for specific decisions, acquisitions, disposals, restructures, capital raises, refinancing, new market entry or major capital expenditure, so choices are informed rather than instinctive.

A full-time CFO costs $250,000 to $400,000 or more in total employment cost. The Finance Hub model delivers that strategic leadership at a fraction of the investment, backed by a complete finance team so the advice is always grounded in current data.

Which do you need

Bookkeeper, accountant or Virtual CFO.

Most growing businesses need all three functions. The Finance Hub provides them in one coordinated engagement rather than across multiple providers.

Who it's for

Where financial complexity has outpaced capability.

Multi-director businesses

Two or more directors often lack a clear framework for oversight and decision-making. Competing priorities and varying financial literacy create friction. A Virtual CFO introduces structure, regular reporting, governance and a shared view of performance that aligns the leadership team around the numbers.

Growing SME groups

Businesses that have moved into multi-entity structures face far more complex requirements, consolidated reporting, intercompany transactions and group cash management. The Finance Hub is designed for exactly this, and works alongside our business structure review to keep the group fit for purpose.

Larger privately owned businesses

Established businesses with $5 million to $50 million or more in revenue that need CFO-level support but cannot justify or attract a full-time hire, including family businesses preparing for succession, those considering external investment and companies entering deliberate growth.

Industries we support

Fit is about complexity, not sector.

What determines fit is not the industry but the financial complexity and the ambition of the leadership team. We work across professional services, construction and trades, property and development, healthcare, technology, manufacturing and wholesale, agriculture and agribusiness, and hospitality and retail, each with its own financial rhythm and pressures.

How we work

Four phases, paced to your complexity.

The pace depends on the complexity and current state of your financial operations.

1
Establish
Establish financial visibility
Before we can advise, we need accurate, current data. We review your systems, clean up historical data where needed, including accounting clean-up and rectification if the books are not in order, and establish a reliable baseline of performance.
2
Create
Create decision frameworks
With clean data, we design reporting and analysis tailored to your business, management reports, KPI dashboards, cash flow models and governance structures. The output is a finance function that produces decision-ready information, not just compliance-ready numbers.
3
Support
Support key decisions in real time
With visibility and frameworks in place, the Virtual CFO becomes a standing resource, attending board or leadership meetings, modelling specific decisions, managing banking and investor relationships and interpreting performance as it happens.
4
Scale
Scale the finance function appropriately
As the business grows or needs change, we adjust scope, increasing reporting frequency, adding entities to the consolidated view, bringing in-house staff under our oversight, or transitioning to a full in-house CFO with our support during the handover.

Common questions

Questions, answered.

Is this only for large businesses?
No. Our Finance Hub and Virtual CFO services scale. We work with businesses from around $1 million in revenue through to $50 million and above, with the scope tailored to your complexity. A $2 million business with three entities and two directors can have needs as complex as a $20 million single-entity company.
Do we need this every month?
Not necessarily. Some businesses engage monthly with regular reporting and advisory meetings. Others work quarterly with more intensive support around budgeting, banking reviews or board cycles. The frequency is set by your needs, not a fixed template.
How is this different from our accountant?
Your accountant focuses on compliance, preparing tax returns and statements and meeting your ATO obligations. A Virtual CFO focuses on using financial data to support business decisions. The roles are complementary. In many cases we continue to provide compliance accounting alongside Virtual CFO services in a single engagement.
What is the difference between a Virtual CFO, an accountant and a bookkeeper?
A bookkeeper records transactions. An accountant prepares compliant statements and manages tax. A Virtual CFO interprets financial information to guide strategy, models future scenarios, manages cash flow projections and provides governance. Most growing businesses need all three, and our Finance Hub delivers them in a coordinated way.
How much does a Virtual CFO cost?
Engagements typically range from $3,000 to $15,000 per month depending on scope, complexity and frequency. A single-entity business with monthly reporting and quarterly advisory sits at the lower end. A multi-entity group needing weekly cash flow management, board reporting and deal support sits higher. We provide a fixed-fee proposal after the initial scoping conversation.
Can you work alongside our existing finance manager?
Yes. Many clients have an internal finance manager or bookkeeper handling day-to-day operations. The Virtual CFO works above that function, reviewing outputs, designing reporting frameworks and providing strategic oversight. This is often more effective than replacing your finance manager with a more senior hire.
What reporting do we receive?
Reporting is customised to your business. Common deliverables include monthly management accounts, divisional or entity-level profit and loss, cash flow forecasts, KPI dashboards, board packs and ad-hoc models for specific decisions. The format is designed to be accessible to non-financial stakeholders, not a data dump from the software.
How quickly can a Virtual CFO be engaged?
For businesses with clean, current books, we can typically start within two to four weeks of the initial scoping meeting. Where significant clean-up is needed, onboarding may take four to eight weeks to establish the baseline. We are transparent about timelines during scoping.
Do you provide outsourced CFO services for startups?
Yes, with a practical caveat. Early-stage startups usually need lighter-touch support, cash runway modelling, investor reporting and cap table management. We offer scaled-down engagements that focus on what matters at that stage without overbuilding the finance function, then scale as the business grows.
What industries benefit most from Virtual CFO services?
Any industry where the business has outgrown its original financial structure. In practice the strongest demand comes from professional services, construction and trades, property developers, healthcare practices, technology companies and multi-site retail or hospitality operators. The common thread is financial complexity beyond what compliance-only accounting can manage.
