Prepare and manage R&D Tax Incentive claims end to end for a portfolio of innovative clients, reporting to our R&D Manager, with a clear path to grow as the R&D practice grows.
About the role
Prime Partners is a chartered accounting and advisory firm that helps ambitious Australian businesses do more with their innovation. Our R&D Tax Incentive practice is growing, and we are looking for an R&D Tax Consultant to prepare and manage claims from start to finish, from identifying eligible activities through to lodging with AusIndustry and the ATO. You will report to our R&D Manager and work directly with founders, finance teams and technical staff across a portfolio of innovative clients. Because our R&D advice sits on top of the tax and compliance work we already do, you will see the full picture rather than an isolated claim, and there is real room to grow as the practice does.
What you'll do
- Identify and assess eligible R&D activities, both core and supporting, against AusIndustry’s legislative definitions
- Prepare and lodge AusIndustry R&D Tax Incentive registrations, and prepare the ATO R&D tax schedule and offset calculations
- Review and allocate eligible R&D expenditure, and make sure records and documentation substantiate each claim
- Write clear, technically sound activity descriptions, hypotheses, experiments and outcomes, that meet ATO and AusIndustry review expectations
- Advise clients on documentation, contemporaneous record keeping and timesheets so claims are audit ready
- Work closely with clients’ technical and finance teams, and liaise with AusIndustry and the ATO
- Support R&D reviews and audits, including drafting responses to review letters
- Keep across changes to R&D Tax Incentive legislation, guidance and case law
- Build trusted client relationships and help grow the R&D practice
What you'll need
- Undergraduate or postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline, which may include Law, Science, Engineering, Computer Science or IT
- A strong understanding of tax and accounting fundamentals
- Around two or more years’ experience with the Australian R&D Tax Incentive in a client facing or consulting role. We will also consider strong candidates from tax or business services keen to specialise
- Excellent technical writing, with the ability to turn complex technical work into clear, defensible activity descriptions
- Confident, clear communication with both technical and finance stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage deadlines across multiple clients
